WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT

As many of you know, we are passionate about giving back through our BCV Cares philanthropy program and especially to our nation’s service members – the few who fight to protect the freedom of this great country. Often times many of these inspiring individuals, come home with wounds you can and can’t see, like a missing limb, combat stress, or depression. Because they’ve risked everything for us, we have committed to raising awareness and funds for these wounded service members and their caregivers.
In honor of Veterans Day in the month of November, Big City Volleyball is proud to host an event with one of their very own Veteran’s, Marion Lozano, in order to benefit an organization whose mission is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors. Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) has a big, audacious goal: to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. We are challenging ourselves and the league to help WWP reach this vision, and we need your help.

Spring 2015, BCV became listed as one of the Top 25 donating companies amongst others such as Google, Blackstone, Guggenheim Partners Citi group and others in the campaign by City Harvest, Skip Lunch Fight Hunger. A campaign which nearly 1 in 4 children in NYC don’t always know where their next meal will come from. And when classrooms empty for the summer, access to free school meals become limited, adding further strain to families who are already struggling to put food on the table. Just $15, the cost of a lunch, helps feed 60 children making sure no child in the city would go hungry this summer. BCV chose to donate 100% of its weekend proceeds from their Open Play games to raise nearly $3000 from 186 participants and as a result feeding nearly 15,000 children. Thanks to the dedicated support of their players and teams, the teams of City Harvest and generous matching funds from an anonymous donor, Skip Lunch Fight Hunger raised over $1 million dollars to help feed tens of thousands of hungry kids and their families this summer in New York City.
